Project Overview

As part of a major reconstruction and expansion project our client engaged Saftronics in early 2007 to provide intelligent Motor Control Centres and full Systems Integration services for this major project.

Following the successful completion of 2 phases of this scheme the client asked Saftronics to provide additional design services, technical expertise and support so that they could implement and evaluate the first of a new generation of intelligent Motor Control Centres based upon the Simocode Pro device. The client also chose to take this approach one-step further and implement fully networked field instrumentation.

Saftronics drew upon their vast in-house experience of intelligent systems and implemented a tried and tested solution for approximately 220 intelligent starters each of which provided real time power consumption measurements as well as significantly enhanced motor protection.

This data was used in supervisory systems to analysis the plant efficient and predict optimisation scenarios to reduce the plant operational costs.

The MCCs also predicted plant failure prior to the failure occurred minimising plant downtime and consent failure. Saftronics provided specialist advice and design technical services for the implementation of self-healing fibre ring networks and multiple PROFIBUS DP networks to intelligent instrumentation.

During the implementation of the site wide Ethernet network we also implemented a temporary low power secure radio Ethernet network between the PLCs.

Throughout the project we provided expert advice to the client and support to the whole organisation to aid in the preparation of the plant and personnel to be able to utilise the new technology.
